My name is Nicholas Mitchell. I was born in London, England and studied mathematics at Cambridge University in the last millennium. After three decades working as a life insurance actuary and then as a law office manager, I became a mathematical philosopher.

I now live in Los Angeles, California, where I enjoy creating and solving puzzles, playing the cello, and sitting in traffic on the 405 freeway.

By the way, I don't look anything like this young lady. She came with the website template, but her face is so much prettier than mine that I decided to keep her. If you really want to know what I look like, you can find a photo on the back cover of my book.

You can e-mail me at (if you can unscramble the two letters I've transposed in order to confuse robots).  However, I do not promise to respond in a timely manner, or at all.

This website collects pretty much the same information as all other websites, which may include the time and date of your visit; the pages accessed and the files downloaded; your computer’s IP address; the type of browser and operating system you are using; the location of any pornographic images on your hard drive; the domain name of the website you came from; and your online banking passcode. I will not sell this information, but I may give it away if a government agency (or anyone else) asks for it. OK, I was kidding about the porn and the passcode, but remember: even if PQR Theory is incorrect, nothing on the Internet is ever truly private.
